The Andrus Family Fund (AFF) seeks to respect traditional philanthropic values while exploring new perspectives and innovative models for giving.

The AFF explores the power of the transition model as it applies broadly to the area of social change. Transition is fundamentally different from change. Where change is external and situational, transition is the internal process of how one responds to the change. AFF believes that change efforts will have a better chance for success if framed with transition processes in mind.

Deadlines Wick Kenney Fund: Accepted year round but grants made around June and December.

Jay Kenney Fund: Relation based funding.
 Comments Eligibility Requirements: Nonprofit organizations

The Kenney Foundation was created by a merger in 2008 of the Jay Kenney Foundation and the William C. Kenney Watershed Foundation. From the merge two funds arose the Wick Kenney Fund and the Jay Kenney Fund.

The Wick Fund makes grants to protect and restore watersheds in the Western United States. In the simplest of terms, we are interested in keeping western rivers flowing with ample volumes of clean water. The Foundation makes only discretionary grants.

Discretionary grants are given to projects that:

  • Provide a real opportunity to change western water policy on a local, state or national level; or
  • Defend environmental laws critical for the protection of all western rivers; or
  • Focus on a specific strategy for protection of a biologically important western watershed; or
  • Research and analyze issues that affect western water. Research topics might include alternatives for managing water demand, mechanisms for transferring water to environmental and recreational use, commentary on federal and state actions that affect water policy. Grants may be used for arranging meetings. Preference will be given to projects that will be disseminated to reach advocates for the West’s rivers.

The Jay Kenney Fund functions like a small family foundation. It makes grants to a variety of organizations and acts as a funding vehicle for the Board’s personal interests.

In the past, the fund has supported a variety of local, national, and international organizations, including the Museum for Contemporary Art, Denver Art Museum,Threepenny Review, Lab at Belmar, KCFR, KUVO, KVNF, and Lighthouse Writers Workshops. On the recreation and environmental side we have funded the Arkansas River Trust, Backcountry Snowsports Alliance, Grand Canyon Private Boaters, Montana Land Reliance,Colorado Whitewater, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, etc.
